What is conflict?
In simple terms, conflict means problems, disputes, and clashes of opinions that occur in our life. Conflict can take place between two people, in a company or in a family.
Conflict can take place due to misunderstanding, miscommunication, third-party involvement, or disagreement on a certain topic and situation.
Conflict can destroy our relations, position, mental peace, and environment around.
Sometimes, people don't want to accept the facts which can be the reasons for conflict so we can only resolve or deal with conflict when she/he is ready to listen.
Before you go for providing solutions, see to it that at least one side is ready to listen and ready to find a solution, then only this can be effective.
Reasons for conflict may vary and are many but we don't want the long-term effect of that argument in our life, so.
How to deal with conflict?
Following are the ways that we can solve our current conflict or avoid conflicts in the future.
- Education and communication
In an organization ineffective communication lead to conflict and poor performance.
In a conflict situation, whoever is in tension feels insecure, and has trust issues. The better way is to communicate with the person and try to solve one's doubts and insecurity by providing knowledge.
When we misunderstand something in a situation, communicating with the right person or your team leader can help in resolving the conflict.
Passing on the news should be avoided & can not be trusted.
- Participation and involvement
When you want to implement a project or new model in the organization or in your family, there are chances that people might oppose and create conflict.
So, what we can do is that making them participate by taking their point of view and explaining the pros and cons. Making them involved in the process can help in avoiding conflicts. This will create belongingness.
- Facilitation and support
He/She may not have any wrong feelings against you but just because you are not appreciating them, they may cause trouble, he/she wants you to notice them for their efforts or contribution.
In an organization, we see people who just want the attention of the leader or just have hard feelings as their leader is not appreciating them for their efforts. We can solve this problem by facilitating them and also providing support when they are in need.
- Negotiation and Agreement
In conflict, someone has to sacrifice or negotiate to get a solution for the problem.
And negotiation should be done in such a way that both parties are satisfied with the arrangement.
To avoid future conflict best way is to make a written agreement. Where both parties agree with terms and conditions.
- Co-operation and Merge
If co-operation makes you at beneficial, do that. Sometimes we see companies doing this to get the benefit and lead in the market.
To avoid conflict, merging two entities together for benefit of self and others.
Example: When Reliance JIO entered the market, Vodafone and Idea faced various challenges, and started losing their customers which resulted in losing market share in India.
Both Idea and Vodafone company were at the point of selling their companies.
So, to deal with the conflict, Vodafone and Idea merged for long-term benefits and in June 2020, Vodafone idea had a 25.75% market share.
Instead of fighting separately, support each other and become stronger ๐ช.
Conclusion
Conflict can arise due to disagreement between two people that can create tension, separation, and lack of mental peace. So, we can solve those problems through support, cooperation, negotiation, agreement, education, and communication.
We can only solve the problems when both parties are ready to find a solution.
Anyone among the parties has to compromise or sacrifice something to gain something.
